Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic

I have been a collector of vintage Hamilton (Hamy) time pieces for a long time. It wasn’t until recently I discovered a few of their modern pieces admired from afar thanks to a friend collector so I had to try at least one… Well one turned into a few more…

My recent acquisition is this Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic. In my opinion this is an elegant dress watch that provides a lot of bang for the buck.  Its got all the elements needed in a classy, not over priced dress Swiss watch in the moderate price range.
Starting with a beautiful stainless steel 40mm case with a combined satin/polish finish that is well done.  Lugs are 20mm attached to an exquisite hand crafted leather strap.  I have to say, the strap is the closest leather strap I’ve seen come close to looking like a real exotic.  Believe me, I know straps!  Nice touch with the “H” logo on the push/pull crown. Love the weight of the Jazzmaster as well because it is really solid and feels really good on the wrist.
The crystal is a slightly domed sapphire crystal which accentuates the beautiful white decorated dial with a date complication. Additionally, there is a crystal see through case back displaying the ETA 2824-2 Mechanical Automatic with customized “Hamilton” logo on the rotor.
I tend to buy watches that are versatile as far a looking good both sporty and dressy.  This is not that watch.  I categorize this as purely a dress watch.  I tried a Horween strap, stainless Hamy bracelet and a few NATOs but nothing looks as classy as the leather strap it is delivered in… I will probably reserve the original strap and opt for an exotic alligator in a wine or burgundy.

In conclusion, I’d recommend this watch for someone looking at acquiring a nice occasional dress watch and/or a daily commuter whether you dress in a suit/tie or business casual.  You know it may not look bad with a pair of jeans, nice shirt or sweater.  Winter is upon us… Prices vary from 775. to 1025. USD, depending on model and if purchased from an official Hamilton dealer or secondary market.  I’ve seen this Jazzmaster from 550. to 775. USD. Happy Hunting!
